A few weeks ago I met my friend Rachel in Brixton for brunch and as we stuffed our faces with yummy eggs benedict she mentioned the Lambeth Country Show was on in nearby Brockwell park. I had never been before but it sounded amazing - music, markets, best in show competitions, a funfair, food stalls and lots of cider. So off we went for an unplanned day of fun. When we got there I couldn't believe the size of the festival, it was massive so we did lots of exploring before finding a spot by the main stage to chill and enjoy the sun and reggae tunes.
The garden market had such a great selection of plants and flowers, if I had my car with me I would have been tempted to buy some new bits.
Beside the garden market was the Best in Show tent so we had to go in and take a look. There were so many tables of all kinds of fruit and veg and cakes all tagged with who grew/made them and then rosettes for the winners. It made me think I was back in Ireland down the country somewhere not in central London. They even had animals made out of fruit and veg...that is definitely something I have never seen before anywhere.
After all the fun of the Best in Show tent we headed towards the markets, past the Scarecrow Competition (seriously) and funfair. There were so many amazing food stalls along the way we instantly regretted our earlier brunch. I even spotted The Bowler who I wrote about here, they do the most amazing meatballs ever! The sun started to come out too which was a relief as some of the clouds were looking pretty dark but maybe that was just to make the Scarecrow Competition look a little more ominous...
There was such a great selection at the markets, Rachel bought some lovely necklaces and soap for gifts. We both bought loads of amazing chutneys from Ladle and Larder, the owner Carrie is so lovely, she is really passionate about what she does and the proof is in the pudding because the chutney's really are so tasty.
After all our walking around and shopping it was time for a much needed drink and sit down. The clouds were nearly all gone and with the sun shining down it was a perfect day for some ciders and reggae tunes.
We had such a great day, I will definitely be going to the Lambeth Country Show again next year, it really is like no other festival I've been to.
